Chile is located along the western coast of the southern cone of South America, between the highest section of the Andes mountain chain and the Pacific Ocean.
Its shape is unique: it is one of the longest countries in the world, with 4,300 km (2,672 miles) long while also one of the narrowest, with an average width of only 180 km (112 miles).
It has every type of climate found on the planet with the sole exception of tropical weather. Has more than 43,000 islands, 42 national parks and more than 2,000 volcanoes. The official language of Chile is Spanish.
Chile is at the forefront of Latin America and ranks alongside the most advanced economies in the world, becoming the first South American country to become a member of the OECD.
Two Chilean poets, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda, had won the Nobel Prize for Literature (1945 and 1971, respectively) and also have two Oscar awards to its credit (“Bear Story” in 2016 and “An Fantastic Woman” in 2018).
